so apparently if you buy this courtney love cd you get to hear her old band pagan babies, but unfortunately, its rather hard to celebrate courtney's 2000's shenanigans without feeling a little guilty.
anyway, pagan babies aka sugar baby doll aka sugar babylon was a 1986 portland band with kat bjelland of babes of toyland and courtney love, who needs no introduction. jennifer finch of L7 is also rumored to be in this band, and im pretty sure was confirmed to be in this band by journalist and interviews with the actual musicians, but apparently isnt on the demo tape or wikipedia. weird.
anyhoo, its pretty fucking awesome and has a definite fleetwood mac feel to it. luckily for us, courtney and kat are not just best friends, but also worst enemies, so we got three great bands out of this.
Tonight in Brooklyn we have the AGGRESSIVE GLITTERFEST at the FLAMINGO PALACE.
I am really excited about this show and not just because i love glitter, but because the bands playing are really amazing and the flamingo palace is the home of some really great people.
The bands playing are Hillii, Bone Token, Homewreckers and Titfit.
Hillii is a two piece loud rock band with the lovely talented Amy Klein (who shared the stage and stole the show at the Anti-Valentines Day Riot Grrrl Cover Band show last February, covering Sleater-Kinney with myself). Amy Klein is also infamous for her work with Titus Andronicus who just played on Late Night with Jimmy Fallen last night. She also has this amazing project called Solanin.
hillii is amazing and one of my favourite things about them is when i saw them at some hipster bar in williamsburg. of course, this bar soundguy who looks like he just walked out of that seventies show kept telling them to keep it down and turning down their amps and shit. i believe he even made the show stop because they were too loud, therefore hillii is more punk rock than you.
i don't really know a lot about bone token except that they are stoner metal, which is always a good thing. Looks like i will find out more tonight.
titfit is my favourite brooklyn band ever, and not just because heather is my roommate/best friend/bandmate, but also because they are everything i ever wanted in life! they are all amazing invididuals and collectively they make up everything riot grrrl represented in the 90's. Aggressive Girl Punk, fuckas. Heather is in a band with me called , I'm a Boy Now who might one day have more than two songs and play a show. Heather and Lee were also in the Sleater-Kinney coverband at the Anti-Valentines Riot Grrrl Cover Band show along with Amy Klein, and i. Lee can also claim glory for her drums in The Facts We Hate. Also, Kat, who at the last show played bass in a full arm cast (FUCKIN TUFF) is in an amazing band called Hey Baby. and arthur wears a dress! there is more member related facts that i cant think of now or that would just be too much in one blog post.
here is a video of titfit from their last show. This song is called Whole Not A Hole. RIOT GRRRL REVIVAL NOW!
Lastly, The Homewreckers are playing tonight, which need no explanation. Its Cristy Roads, the infamous artist. As well as Crystal from Partyline (with Allison Wolfe!). You can check them out here if you havent already, which i dont know why you havent.
anyway, I PROMISE FUTURE POSTS WILL NOT BE SO CENTERED ON THE PRESENT (BECAUSE WE ALL KNOW I AM STUCK IN THE NINETIES) AND WILL NOT BE SO SELF RELATED (I LOVE THESE PEOPLE SO THIS IS KINDA PERSONAL, JERKS!)... future post will definitely have more bands from the past that you may or may not know of, and links to download their whole albums (NO MATTER HOW RARE THEY MAY BE!).
